USF Partners With Dispatch Project, Impacts Dominicans

USF Partners With Dispatch Project, Impacts Dominicans
The University of Sioux Falls sponsored a mission trip for LuAnn Grossman and Veda Iverson to the Dominican Republic in February.

USF's motto, Culture for Service, inspires faculty, staff, and students to impact the world for Christ and serve those in need. Through a partnership with Dispatch Project, USF sponsored Director of the Degree Completion Program LuAnn Grossman and Director of Online Education Veda Iverson to serve on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic Feb. 15-23.

LuAnn and Veda, along with a team of eight others, worked on a construction project to build a new home for Pastor Charmay Paul. Charmay pastors a church in a Haitian cane cutter village called Batey 203.

"I enjoyed working side by side with the local people," LuAnn says. "I loved their spirit and happiness and loved all the hugs and enthusiasm from the children. It was sad to say goodbye to our new friends, and our motto became 'we will be friends forever.'"

They were able to invest in the lives of those living in the village and, in return, they were impacted by those whom they had served.

"Despite their circumstances, they are happy, wonderful people that I have so much respect for," Veda says. "We learned a lot from them. It was a life-changing experience that I will never forget."

Dispatch Project is a group of business professionals in Sioux Falls who seek to involve the business community in overseas service work. Highlights from their trip can be found at www.dispatchproject.com. LuAnn and Veda's personal travel blog shares their account of the journey.
